While omitting economic data, it introduces a range of new findings, for example, on foundation soil under spread foundations and on pile foundations. It also uses new units such as kilopond and newton, and international symbols for quantities from soil mechanics. Numerous changes in regulations and standards over the seven years since the first edition have also affected the way the book was revised. The explanations have been revised from an educational perspective as well.
