A perfect example of a rare sapphirine in the form of flat, extremely large crystals that come from new finds in Madagascar. Sapphirine is a silicate that at most deposits around the world only forms tiny grains. It was named for its resemblance to sapphire, not only in its crystal shape but also in its blue color, which is typical for some sapphirines. The sample offered is a tabular crystal extracted from biotitic rock. On the back side of the sample is a second, smaller and completely undamaged crystal. The size of the main crystal is 35 mm and it is complete! The sample is neither glued nor stabilized in any way. Sapphirine crystals from the Morafeto deposit are certainly the best and by far the largest crystals of this otherwise systematic mineral in the world. It is a perfect collection specimen of complete crystals.
