Sapphirine

$331

Availability: In stock

Dimension: 15 × 53 × 58 mm

A perfect example of a rare sapphirine in the form of flat, extremely large crystals that come from new discoveries in Madagascar. Sapphirine is a silicate that at most deposits around the world only forms tiny grains. It was named for its resemblance to sapphire, not only in its crystal shape but also in its blue color, which is typical for some sapphirines. The offered sample is a thick tabular crystal extracted from a biotitic rock. The size of the crystal is 33 mm, from the front the crystal is complete and has a perfect shape. On the back side, a small part of the crystal is missing, as is the case with a large number of samples mined without care. The sample is not glued or stabilized in any way. Sapphirine crystals from the Morafeto deposit are certainly the best and by far the largest crystals of this otherwise systematic mineral in the world. It is a perfect collection specimen.
