Sapphirine

Availability: In stock

Dimension: 35 × 64 × 85 mm

An excellent example of rare sapphirine in the form of flat, extremely large crystals that come from new discoveries in Madagascar. Sapphirine is a silicate, which forms only small grains at most deposits in the world. It was named for its resemblance to sapphire, not only in its crystal shape but also in its blue color, which is typical for some sapphirines. The offered sample is a flat, dark crystal that has been extracted from a biotite rock. The size of the crystal is 4 cm, with a small contact with another missing crystal on the top part, otherwise, the crystal is complete. The crystal was gently stabilized in its place due to the preparation, but it was never broken off or fallen out. Sapphirine crystals from the Morafeto deposit are certainly the best and by far the largest crystals of this otherwise systematic mineral in the world. This is a perfect collector’s specimen.
