Sapphirine

475

Availability: In stock

Dimension: 25 × 55 × 84 mm

A perfect museum specimen of the rare mineral sapphirine in the form of a flat, extremely large crystal, originating from new discoveries in Madagascar. Sapphirine is a silicate that forms only small grains at most deposits worldwide. It was named for its resemblance to sapphire, not only in its crystal shape but also in its blue color, which is typical for some sapphirines. The sample offered is a tabular crystal, carefully extracted from biotite rock. The crystal size is 39 mm and it is complete and undamaged!. The specimen is not glued or stabilized in any way. Sapphirine crystals from the Morafeto deposit are certainly the best and by far the largest crystals of this otherwise systematic mineral in the world. This is a top collection sample of an undamaged crystal, which is very rare from this location due to the careless mining of samples.
